Network Neutrality
How is data distributed on the web?
The FCC hasĀ receivedĀ a letter from some of the worlds largest internet companies (Google, Ebay, Skype, Facebook, Amazon and Sony Electronics – to name a few) stating that bandwidth-heavy data (i.e video and audio streaming) should utilize a system called the tiered system; this system restricts and reduces the speed at which said data travels. The FCC opposed the request thought the internet giants would benefit from only competing on the basis of content alone.
The tiered system has been declined now but it seems as though it may be appearing in the future.
